Verizon Alltel Merger

Verizon Alltel Merger Latest News

There has been a lot of talk about the Verizon phone company buying out and merging with Alltel. Now, this is going to mean a lot of different things for Alltel customers.  It seems as though they are really the only ones being affected by the merger.  Take a look at the Verizon Alltel merger and see how this can affect you if you as an Alltel customer.

Cost of the Buyout

It took a little bit of time for the merger to actually take place.  This was simply due to the fact that both companies were trying to agree on the actual cost of the merger.  At the end of the day, Verizon agreed to buy Alltel for a total of 28.1 billion dollars.  Initially, the will pay off the $22.2 billion dollars in debt that Alltel is currently swimming in.  After the debt is all paid off, they will end up purchasing the company for a total of $5.9 billion.  After the entire deal has gone through and is all said and done, Verizon will then become the largest wireless company on the market.

What this Means for Alltel Customers

As soon as the merger occurred, Alltel customers seemed to be a little bit up in arms.  There certainly were a lot of questions floating around as to how their service was going to be affected.  Luckily for them, both Verizon and Alltel have built incredible 3G networks.  This allows those to get better coverage and once the billing systems are simply merged together, everything should be fine.  There was an FAQ that was sent to all Alltel customers that allowed them to get their lingering questions answered.

Good News or Bad News

Some Alltel customers think that the Verizon Alltel merger is not going to be a very good idea.  As of now, certain phones that are offered by Verizon will not be available to Alltel customers.  Obviously, with any merger that occurs, it takes a little bit of time for things to change and adjust.

What do you need to do?

As an Alltel customer, Verizon has probably already advised you that there is nothing that you need to do.  When everything is starting to transition you will still have your features such as the My Circle as well as your initial calling plan.  The merger was completed on the 9th of January, 2009.  This means that the system is changing fast and before you know it you will soon become a Verizon plan.

One of the biggest downfalls of this Verizon Alltel merger is the fact that certain phones are not going to be available just yet.  After a little bit of time, when all of the dust is settled, you will be able to get some great Verizon phones such as the Blackberry, which allows you to stay connected anytime!  If you are a current Alltel customer, take a look at the Alltel website to find out some more information about this merger and how it affects you.
